Has anybody encountered “Print Head” slaming the printer (inkjet)walls ?
My printer was working fine, but NO ink, so I cleaned it several times, until I got some image (poor) out on the sheet, the last time I cleaned the print head manualy, and I thought this time I would get a good print, guess what, The print head started slaming the sides of the printer at a super fast speed, and since then I have been unable to get it to work, adding that I have other printers that work, I just want to find the reason and cause this bahavior and If there is a way to replace the damaged part ! Thank You for any info that can lead me in solving, Think if this had happened to yourself . Repalcing it with a NEW Printer finaly would be an ideal solution but I hope this can be resolved ! fingers crossed!
Hrm, it could be a couple things, but the first item that comes to mind, and the most likely is the encoder strip.
Most modern printers feature an encoder strip (different companies use different names for the same part) This strip is translucent/clear, and has a bunch of small black lines on it(so small you can’t see without really looking close, it looks grey from a distance). You usually will see this strip inside the printer, above the metal shaft that the carriage is moving back and forth across.
A small sensor on the back of the carriage assembly (the part moving back and forth) shoots a beam of light though this strip, and every time is passes one of the small black lines it breaks the beam of light. (imagine when you walk into the local convience store and a bell rings, same principal). The printer simply counts the number of lines it has passed to tell exactly where it is at (left and right). The strip is either broken, slipped out of place, or the sensor on the back of the carriage has gotten ink over the small light that shoots through the plastic strip.
What I usually find is either the strip is broken, or it has slipped out of place in the back of the carriage, and the part moving back and forth has no ideal how far its moving, hence the rapid moving back and forth, its trying to find itself, slapping into the side of the printer, etc.
Now for the not so great news, these strips, which are cheap to replace, usually require you to dis-assemble the unit to put it back into place correctly. Its usually too tight for you to try putting it back into place without pulling it apart (unless your blessed with really small hands!)
Both HP and Epsons use this technology, as do other companies, but I see this problem the most on HP’s printers.
